THE BIGGER THE HOOP...

Jumper: Motel Rocks (sample) | Skirt: H&M | Shoes: similar here | Bag: Pimkie
----------------------------------------------------

I love pairing traditionally feminine pieces like skirts and dresses, with trainers. It's such a good way to keep things casual while moving away from the standard everyday jeans look. This look is one of my recent favourites, especially because there's a really good balance between a girly and grungy aesthetic. The cropped jumper, skirt and hooped earrings make for a really cool contrast with the dark colour palette and silver trainers - such a simple everyday look.

PURE LONDON // MARBLE ARC SS16

I've always been fascinated by the behind-the-scenes process that drive small businesses forward; the things that most of us, as consumers, don't see or even think about. The fashion industry is one of the most fast-paced and ever-changing industries out there, and its relentless nature means a tough grind for anyone involved in this world, particularly small companies. Six months ahead of every new season (in fashion terms, Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter), the Marble Arc buying team travels to London and other major cities, to attend trade shows and buy all of the new pieces that we then see in store several months down the line. It's an arduous, exciting and very necessary process, so when I was given the opportunity to go along and help out, I jumped at the chance.

Yesterday's particular affair was Pure London; a three day event based at Olympia, and with an overwhelming number of traders (over 700, in fact) manning hundreds of stalls, it really was a feast for the eyes. We spent several hours talking to various suppliers, browsing the stalls, scanning new collections, and discovering upcoming labels. After selecting some gorgeous Spring and Summer pieces from popular brands (and local favourites) such as Glamorous, Lace & Beads amongst many others, some of the buying for next season was done!

As a fashion styling graduate, I absolutely loved the process - while I really enjoy putting my own outfits together, which is essentially the premise of my blog, it was so much fun picking out gorgeous and on-trend pieces, while always keeping Marble Arc's market and clientèle in mind, and also thinking about how they could be teamed together to create stylish outfits, suitable for all tastes and body types. After just a brief insight into this buying process, I definitely have a new-found appreciation for the relentless work that goes on behind the scenes, in order for businesses like Marble Arc to continue making strides and catering to their clients' needs.

YRU // LASSO WESTERN ANKLE BOOTS

Shirt: H&M | Jeans: Topshop | Watch: Skagen | Coat: M&S | Boots: YRU via ASOS
-----------------------------------------------

I can't tell you how long I've been after Western-style boots like these! I think I say that for pretty much every new purchase, but seriously though, this has been a committed and long-running obsession of mine. A couple of years ago, I started noticing more and more street-style shots pop up featuring pointed-toe boots with silver hardware and the typical western-style heel, and they really stopped me in my tracks. I remember posting a picture of the Acne Pistol boots on my Instagram rather wistfully, but at £350....a girl's gotta pay her rent. I'd been on the lookout for the perfect pair ever since, but, I'm not gonna lie, I'm super picky when it comes to shoes, and I didn't quite fall head over heels with anything I saw. Then, more than 6 months ago, I saw these babies, by the brand YRU, on the ASOS website, and just knew that they were THE ONES. Typically, they were out of stock for months and months, but I kept my little hawk eye on them, and they finally came back in stock, and even better, in the sale.

When they arrived, though, my heart sunk slightly because they were incredibly tight, almost to the point that I couldn't fit them on my feet, but after a couple of weeks of wearing them in, they were so so comfy, and have now really moulded themselves to the shape of my foot, which really is a testament to the great quality of the leather. They are so wearable and adaptable, but still have the power to make any boring outfit that little bit more special!
